Our rental was described as a studio, but it was far more! After some disappointments on Maui, we were thrilled to arrive at the beautiful Dawn Studio. The accommodations were extremely spacious and well appointed; the owner has excellent attention to detail. There is a reason for the name "Rainbow Kauai ". The panoramic vista greeted us daily with rainbows and the soothing chorus of nature in the rain forest. The location was perfect! Welcome to Kauai! We can accommodate a couple in Lily Pad Studio or in Central area "Moon" , one bedroom, or a small family with kids over 4 years of age (high balconies) in Dawn Studio....

This 4 year old home stands tall with magnificent views up valley, and at 200 yds from beach, you'll hear the winter surf. This is a high end house at a budget price! Travertine floors, onyx bathroom counters, granite kitchen counters. The three spaces each have their own bathroom and kitchen and private entree.

As this home is still fairly new, we are naturally protective of the wood floors, curtains, etc. and would like you to be also. All shoes and sand on feet come off at bottom of stairs! An elevator is available for elderly or wheel chair access or moving heavy luggage. Otherwise, it's two flights of stairs! We only rent to respectful people who are quiet enough not to disturb other guests or neighbors. If you like to party, best to find another place! Also, smoking is not allowed anywhere in house nor on lanai. If you love nature and want to experience the real Hawaii, and not a condo complex that could be anywhere, 'Rainbow Kauai' is for you!

We have been renting to honeymoon couples, couples, small families, for over 12 years on Kauai.

We are located 4 miles north of Hanalei, 1/4 mile north of Lumahai Beach where the movie South Pacific was filmed, 2 miles south of Tunnels Beach famed for snorkeling, and 4 miles south of Ke'e Beach which is the end of the highway and the beginning of the Kalalau Trail. This last 8 miles of coastline from Hanalei Town to Ke'e Beach is the most beautiful and sought after area on Kauai.

Unlike the South Side, there are no rows of hotels here, rows of resorts, or stop lights. The closest stop light is 25 miles away. It is lush, tropical, natural and GREEN!

....Saturday, May 23, 2009 " AP reports that Hanalei Bay on the Hawaiian island of Kauai was ranked as the best beach in the world by “Dr. Beach,” Stephen P. Leatherman, director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research. “The sheer beauty of Hanalei Bay is breathtaking."

Hanalei is a tiny town seven minutes away with stores, gift shops, several restaurants. Hanalei features the most beautiful white sand beach on Kauai. Princeville is another five minutes away with a larger grocery store, more restaurants and gas station, (and a zillion condos).

All spaces have internet by ethernet cable (the house is now wireless free to meet Parliament of Europe warnings on wireless dangers, so Ipad users without ethernet port, please note.), cable TV, a shared phone with free long distance calling, DVD player, CD player. Cell phone reception is limited due to valley conditions. Washer and dryer is shared by all, detergent provided. All have the same magnificent view.

1. Dawn Studio, $160 total/night is a large, 800 sq. ft, open studio with private entrance, kitchenette with frig/freezer, hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, blender and complete table settings and cookware, ADA bathroom (with hair dryer) and shower, a tub on lanai, King bed, fold out couch. Laundry area includes ironing board. The beds can see each other, so their is not visual privacy. All linen and towels provided with laundry access. There is a barbeque downstairs in carport under house.

2. "Moon" Full Kitchen with Private Master Bedroom, $180/night grand total, much larger than other spaces but no tub. Photos below. I couldn't think of a name for it but there was a full moon so...This central part of house has private entrance, full kitchen with oven and dishwasher, large living room and large curved lanai, seperate bedroom and fold out couch. The Master Bedroom has a king bed, and bathroom with round shower shown below. Barbeque downstairs. The Central area "Moon" is usually rented after others are filled. Moon area is reserved for...

1. One or two Single Travelers or Quiet Couples who understand that it is possible to be loud enough so that neighboring guests could hear you. The house is sound proofed, but the floor joists are shared and most windows are open year round, so sounds can carry. Being aware refers to TV, early morning heavy kitchen sounds, and basically loud voices. Lets say 99% of people are quiet, but 1% for whatever reasons are loud and if you happen to be loud type, it just won't work. For example if you wear a hearing device and shout. I've noticed that people who drink heavy are loud. If that is your trip, think twice. This is a nature retreat.

2. If a family wants to rent both Central "Moon" and Dawn Studio which can connect, this can work.

3. Lily Pad Studio $160/night grand total, 500 sq. ft, is best for couples, or perhaps a couple with one small child. (Three college gents stayed once with futon) It is so named as it looks straight down on a pond with purple water lillies, but recently the ducks have eaten a lot of them... :) photo below. Lily Pad Studio features private entrance, a large bedroom with dining space, two person jacuzzi on spacious lanai, a small kitchenette with frig/freezer, hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, blender, and complete table settings and cookware, and its own bathroom with shower and hair dryer. All linen and towels provided with laundry access. Barbeque downstairs.

My 2 buddies and I loved it! It's easy to find and has easy access to beaches, trails and the Na Pali coast. The place was clean and really peaceful. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

"A Hidden Gem"

Breathtaking, marvelous, hospitable, is how I would describe our experience! The accommodations were very clean and the grounds well maintained and picturesque. Beautiful plants, trees and other foliage are plentiful on the property. We wanted to stay on the north shore to experience the scenery and stunning nature Kauai has to offer. We were not disappointed! Just a short drive to gorgeous Hanalei Bay and other great beaches, hiking and the Na Pali coast to the north. This is an excellent place to stay if you are looking for abundant nature, amazing views and a perfect location to take it all in.

We had a great stay at the Dawn Studio. Ray was a perfect host and had great tips for making the most of our trip to Hanalei. The apartment is kept in immaculate condition and had everything we needed. The location is very convenient to get to Lumahai and Tunnels Beaches, as well as to the Kalalau Trail. This is the perfect choice if you are looking for quiet and serene surroundings with beautiful views.

"Ahhhhh...serenity"

Rainbow views was the most pleasant surprise of our 18 day Hawaiian vacation. I wish we had spent the entire time here! We stayed in the Dawn Studio; an immaculate apartment, well appointed & constructed with superb attention to detail. There was nothing lacking! Ray was extremely helpful and non-obtrusive. The property itself is gorgeous, greeting you daily with a chorus of tropical music and fabulous rainbows. Hanalei town is very close, but just far enough away. Beautiful beaches abound, as do very nice restaurants and shopping. What we most appreciated was the proximity to the remarkable Kalalau trail; this is a hiker's paradise. I would recommend Rainbow Views without hesitation; we felt as though we had discovered a well-kept secret!
A car is advisable.

"An outstanding house with spectacular views"

My 6 person family just returned from two wonderful weeks at this property where we rented all three units (2 studios with a 1 bedroom in the middle). We could not have been happier; in fact, we were ecstatic.

All 3 units have incredible views up into the jungle and the mountains beyond, which change by the hour. There were beautiful rainbows almost every day, sometimes doubles. The grounds of the house have wonderful trees and flowers and several ponds which are full of fish and visited by exotic birds.

I t is clear that the house was built with extraordinary craftsmanship and the highest quality materials. We were completely satisfied with the kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities.

The house is within easy driving distance of some of Kauai's best beaches and the start of the world famous Kalalau trail.

All in all it was a terrific experience which we would recommend to anyone. We are all looking forward to a return trip!
